Cruze is a Thoroughbred gelding whose path to healing has been nothing short of miraculous. He first came to Right Foot Ranch for training to address severe behavioral challenges—but he never left. Instead, Cruze became part of our herd and part of our heart.
We don’t know what happened in his early life to make him so withdrawn and angry. What we do know is that he arrived with a deep fear of touch, a tendency to bite and kick, and physical evidence of past trauma—fractured ribs, hip injuries, and nerve damage.
But Cruze chose to stay. And we chose to believe in his potential to heal.
With time, patience, and gentle care, Cruze is steadily reclaiming his body, mind, and spirit. His transformation has amazed everyone—including his former owner, who called it a miracle. We couldn’t agree more.
Cruze reminds us that healing isn’t always linear, and trust must be earned—but when it is, the results are extraordinary.
Fergus is one of the most profound rescue and rehabilitation stores we’ve ever witnessed. When he arrived at Right Foot Ranch, he was 350 pounds underweight, severely neglected, and had endured unimaginable cruelty – including being set on fire. Defensive, shut down, and dangerous, Fergus had lost all trust in humans. Most likely he is a quarter horse.
Through unwavering patience and compassion, Fergus slowly began to let us in. First, he allowed us to approach. Then, to halter him. Eventually, he welcomed gentle touch. Today, Fergus has transformed into a vibrant, willing, and courageous partner. He thrives in liberty work and often roams the farm freely – without a halter or lead rope – choosing connection over control.
Fergus carries a deep, intuitive understanding of pain. He meets our clients with quiet strength and empathy, offering a safe space for healing and self-discovery. His journey reminds us that even the most broken spirits can rise again – with love, trust, and time.
Sephora is a striking Mustang mare originally from the wild Jicarilla herd in New Mexico. Her journey began when she was gathered as a young horse and entered the Extreme Mustang Makeover—a national competition that gives trainers just 90 days to gentle a wild mustang for adoption. Sephora competed as an “in-hand” horse, meaning she wasn’t yet rideable but had begun groundwork training. Though her progress was promising, her nerves got the best of her at the event center, where she famously knocked over tables. She left without a ribbon—or a home.
A Mustang advocate saw something special in Sephora and paid the $125 fee to the Bureau of Land Management to secure her title. Sephora was then turned out on 1,000 acres to live freely, but her adopter believed she was destined for more. That belief led Sephora to Right Foot Ranch.
When she arrived, Sephora was deeply fearful of humans—so much so that she jumped a five-foot fence from a standstill just to escape. But with patience, empathy, and time, a language began to form between her and her new handlers. Slowly, Sephora began to see purpose in connection.
Today, Sephora is a smart, sassy, and intuitive therapy horse who reads people with uncanny precision. Her sensitivity and strength make her an extraordinary partner in equine-assisted therapy. The LCBC event marks only her third public outing, and we couldn’t be prouder of how far she’s come.
Simon is the oldest horse at Right Foot Ranch. He’s a 28-year-old Quarter horse gelding, sired by the distinguished stallion Paint Me Hobby. Unlike many of our rescues, Simon’s story is one of lifelong love and care. He was cherished by his owner, who, due to medical challenges, could no longer provide for him in his gold years.
Rather than face an uncertain future, Simon was welcomed into our sanctuary to live out his days surrounded by peace, purpose, and companionship. Though he’s an elder, Simon still participates in therapy sessions and enjoys leisurely rides down the road, offering his calm wisdom to those who need it most.
Simon reminds us that rescue isn’t always about saving a life – it’s also about honoring one. His presence is a gift, and his story is a testament to enduring love and the beauty of aging with grace.
Super Chick is a striking American Paint mare whose story began in heartbreak but blossomed into healing. She came to Right Foot Ranch as a baby – the last remaining horse from a herd dispersal after her breeder faced serious medical challenges and personal loss. With an eye injury and a leg wound, Chick was overlooked by others. But her breeder saw something more.
In a moment of deep vulnerability, she asked us to take Chick in – not just as a rescue, but as a living tribute to her son, who had tragically passed away by suicide. Her wish was the Chick to help others heal, to live with purpose, and to carry forward a legacy of compassion.
And Chick had done just that. Despite her early injuries, she’s grown into a confident, intuitive partner who brings comfort and connection to those who need it most. Whether she’s working in therapy sessions or simply offering her gently presence, Chick reminds us that healing often begins with being seen, accepted, and loved.
We are proud of the horse she’s become – and grateful for the lives she continues to touch.
Clydesdale-Quarter Horse cross
When Harley stepped off the trailer at Right Foot Ranch, he carried more than scars – he carried the weight of sixteen years without kindness. His lip was torn, his body battered from life in a crowded pen, and his eyes...void of light. The man who sold him offered a parting shot, “Good luck making a therapy horse out of this one.”
We didn’t see this Clydesdale-Quarter horse cross as a lost cause. We saw a soul worth saving.
Harley came from a no-kill pen, but survival isn’t the same as living. He was rough around the edges, guarded, and deeply disconnected. He wouldn’t take a treat from anyone’s hand, wouldn’t meet your gaze, and had a bucking problem that made even seasoned riders wary. For over a year, he trusted no one.
So, we gave him time. Space. Patience. We didn’t demand trust – we earned it.
Through gentle communication and consistent choices, Harley began to understand that he had agency. That he was safe. That he mattered. Slowly, the light returned to his eyes. He started reaching out, accepting touch, and eventually – miraculously – offering connection.
Today, Harley is our most trusted therapy horse. He’s carried more than 1,000 riders, each one touched by his quiet strength and steady heart. Children with trauma, veterans with PTD, individuals who’ve forgotten how to feel safe – Harley meets them where they are, just as we once met him.
Harley didn’t just become a therapy horse. He became a symbol of hope.
In 2025, the Pennsylvania National Horse Show (PNHS) Foundation named Harley the PNHS Foundation’s Therapy Horse of the Year. He’s living proof that healing is possible. That love rewrites stories. That no horse – and no person – is ever too far gone.
